Classification of Generators in BiH – Proposal

Network Code (EU) 2016/631 with requirements for grid connection of generators (Network Code RfG) were incorporated in the regulatory framework of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Decision adopted by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) on transposition of network codes on connection as of 12^th June 2018 and thus the responsibility was undertaken to implement the Network Code by 12^th July 2021 at the latest.

Establishment of thresholds of installed capacity for classification of generators is the basis of the Network Code RfG implementation. The competent system operator with the Regulator’s approval defines the threshold of maximum power for certain categories of generators in dependence on local conditions, voltage level at the connection point, the technology of a specific generator, its type, capacity, and impact on stability and operation of the electric power system and it analyses functional requirements that must be met by generators.

Within the Energy Sector Assistance Project in BiH – USAID EPA there was formed a working group to analyse the alignment of Market rules in BiH consisted of relevant institutions’ representatives at both state and entity levels whose task was to determine thresholds of installed capacity for classification of generators.

The working group adopted a proposal for classification of generators in line with the methodology described in a document with the working title: “Classification of generators according to installed capacity and voltage level at the connection point in BiH”.
