Banja Luka: Successful Balkan Solar Summit

Regional Conference on solar industry “Balkan Solar Summit”, organized by agency “Mint” was held on 9th and 10th February in Banja Luka. Representatives of Independent System Operator actively participated in the Conference.

The President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik opened the Regional Conference “Balkan Solar Summit” gathering around 400 experts from energy and finance backgrounds, of which there were 55 solar energy experts.
General Director Nemanja Pandurević discussed the term of virtual power plant and the model of access to these power plants and advantages of their usage by small and large producers in electricity trade, challenges and export potentials.
Head of the Department for Real Time System Management at NOSBiH Bojan Rebić held a lecture on balancing intermittent renewable energy sources in the power system and opportunities that small producers meet in the wholesale electricity market.
NOSBiH Representative Omer Hadžić participated in discussions on the establishment of an organized electricity market in BiH. The advantages of RES were pointed out as well as the challenges in RES trading and in terms of the establishment of the power exchange. USAID BiH has started the programme of technical cooperation in terms of the modality of the organized market in BiH and the verification of liquidity ratio of the future power exchange.
Head of the Department for Strategic Planning and Development at NOSBiH Obrad Škrba was discussing the challenges of accelerated integration of new renewable energy sources (nRES) in the transmission system and the perspectives of the transmission system development. Other discussed topics included the balancing of nRES generation and the system’s role in electricity storage. Due to a large number of requests for nRES connection to the transmission system, many perspectives of the transmission system development were also considered.
